This is now my second year at Fiverr Pro, and in April I received three commissions in the same week. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pull off three renders in the same period of time, as they tend to take a week each full-time, but I was up for the challenge, and this one turned (the Hero Builder) out to be one of my best illustrations to-date.
The outline of the brief was a simple idea to create an illustration from an original drawing from the client. He had been using it for his company identity, but felt that the design needed to move to the next level. This is where I came in, and was employed to add a little punch to the original drawing (see the comparison below).
The basis behind the illustration was to enhance the original illustration concept that the client provided. He requested that the character had large muscle build and brown skin. He also indicated that the tools had to be exact to his, as they were the tools he used in his work. Apart from that the spec was pretty much open, and he welcomed I improved and work out issues on the sketch to make the work look better.
The sketch was made after doing several reference drawing from many body builder images found in research. These were slowly enhanced to give the correct body mass the client wanted. The armour was design and based on a combination of medieval, fantasy and Roman designs. All other elements were referenced off real life items found during research. The rendering used my standard photoshop brush (which I have become familiar with), and the only other inclusions were a tattoo that was required, and the belt buckle of the company initials, which were both designed separately in Photoshop, and then added to the render.
